Longtime District 20 Resident Sharyn Sarner: Support Heftman and Nesin

The following is a Letter to the Editor by longtime District 20 resident and Stamford Democrat Sharyn Sarner that was published in the Stamford Advocate on March 1, 2024.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Votes for Heftman and Nesin

To the editor,

On Tuesday, March 5, Stamford Democrats will vote in 17 districts for the candidates who will represent them on the Democratic City Committee (DCC). I live in District 20, and I am voting enthusiastically for Jackie Heftman and Roslyn Nesin.

This is a critical election that will determine how Stamford will be governed for many years. It could also result in serious consequences for our state and federal leadership.

The DCC is responsible for recruiting candidates for Stamford’s elective offices, boards, and commissions and for selecting and working to elect the most qualified candidates for local, state and federal office.

In District 20, we are extremely fortunate to have two accomplished, dedicated DCC incumbents running on the Democrats United for Stamford slate: Jackie Heftman and Roslyn Nesin. Jackie, the DCC’s current treasurer and president of the Board of Education, serves on its executive committee and Roslyn chairs the DCC appointments committee. Both have tremendous experience in leadership volunteering throughout our community.

During their time on the DCC, Jackie and Roz have recruited, mentored and helped elect Democrats including: state Rep. Matt Blumenthal, Attorney General William Tong, City Rep. Carl Weinberg and Caroline Simmons, Stamford’s first woman mayor. Their government and political experience makes them uniquely skilled to identify and recruit qualified candidates who can solve Stamford’s challenges. They also fully support Congressman Jim Himes and Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy.

In contrast, their opponents have not attended DCC meetings, served in government or worked on political campaigns. This year, we are facing consequential elections. We need skilled, experienced leadership we can count on to make vital decisions that will not only affect our city, but our state and federal government.

That’s why I have volunteered for and support Jackie and Roz. I urge my fellow District 20 residents to join me on Tuesday, March 5, and vote for Jackie Heftman and Roslyn Nesin, (Row C on the ballot), to represent us on the DCC.

Sharyn Sarner is a longtime resident of District 20.
